You can submit press releases (written by someone with experience in writing, especially media writing) and submit to news organizations.

Check out resources like Best Friends Network, which can publish news stories on your shelter; you can find tips on how to increase adoptions and donations.

We have two ASPCA rescues, and we adopted both at an SPCA adoption fair hosted by PetSmart. Our SPCA does two adoption fairs a month at PetSmart, and they also host a bi-monthly adoption fair at another local pet store. They also bring in the pet of the week for a spot on our local TV station. I don’t know if you guys do any of these things, but the SPCA here says it has worked wonders. They adopt an average of 50 pets a weekend at those adoption fairs.

Addition: Our SPCA has it’s own builiding as well, but they still do the fairs. They also foster a lot of their animals and have the foster parents available for those animals that are being adopted so that they can give a really good assessment of temperament and habits.

Make up flyers to hand out at soccer practices or similar gatherings.
The flyer shows a cute dog and says Give me five minutes. Think about what you can do for an animal. After you spend five minutes considering whether you can throw a ball or give a bath or fold some towels or donate some food, then thanks for five minutes. If you decided you can help, call 1-blah blah blah or check our website blah blah
