Petfinder is just a gateway to local shelters & rescues. You can’t adopt directly from them.
Most places have an adoption fee to cover medical costs, food/upkeep costs, etc.
Most also want an application form filled out before you’re approved to adopt.
If they handed out animals for free, and to whoever wanted them first….many would end up in the wrong hands, or in a home where no medical care is provided (or even able to be afforded)
on petfinder they have lists of shelters and u have to contact the shelters and the animals can be shipped or u can visit the shelters.. usually they cost about $100.. but u would have to know if it was updated on its shots and medicine..
